Congratulations on your new baby! Taking care of your baby is our top priority.  We know that no parent plans for their baby to be in the NICU but if the unexpected happens, it is important to know your baby will receive exceptional specialty care and be glad you have Saint Joseph Hospital.

The NICU is located on the 2nd floor of Saint Joseph Hospital, a brand-new facility that opened in April 2014.our 10-bed NICU is equipped and staffed to deliver a full-range of medical care services to all new-born from at-risk infants to critically ill neonates.

Our mission is to provide hope, healing, and the best health care for new-born babies and their families with unrelenting attention to medical excellence and patient safety. We are dedicated to providing superior, compassionate, developmentally supportive, individualized care in a family-centered environment.

The care we provide is very much baby and family-cantered & is delivered by an enthusiastic and friendly team including doctors and neonatal nurses.

In addition, many of the Registered Nurses have additional qualifications in Neonatal Intensive or Special Care Nursing which makes the unit a very safe place to care for those babies.

After delivery the babies are usually cared for beside their mother offering the finest newborn services, and a caring environment in which to enjoy one of life's most memorable moments. By providing the latest medical advancements delivered by an experienced team, we give the family peace of mind, knowing that the mother and baby are receiving the finest care possible. Special attention is paid by our special team to encourage and promote bonding & breast feeding to help babies in their first steps in life so we offer full or partial rooming in possibilities where the mother and baby are kept together as much as possible.

Some babies come to NICU for a few hours stay, others a few days and some a few weeks prior to going home. Whatever was the length of stay or the cause of admission of the baby to NICU the care is tailored to the baby’s individual requirements and will involve a range of multidisciplinary team workers to ensure that the babies receive the most optimal, family-centered care.

The design of the unit is such to enable parents to have a lot more involvement in the care of their baby: there is more space, comfy chairs to help with establishing breastfeeding and specialists to help mothers prepare for taking their baby home.

The unit is fully equipped with all the state of art equipment necessary for the care of our precious newborn babies

We have access to a 24-hour neonatal transport team for babies who require transfer to Tertiary centers for extreme prematurity, surgery and cardiac referral.

Blood tests, treatments and immunization are performed according to the Ministry of Health's requirements, The Neonatal Screening or "Heel Prick" Test, which test for common inherited disorders. Other tests, such as special blood tests, x-ray or ultrasounds, are conducted as needed after thorough medical counselling.
